Florence Jay was a British artist best known for her genre scenes, dog portraits, and sporting subjects, demonstrating a particular talent for capturing the character and individuality of dogs. Her paintings are often executed in a loose and expressive manner, with special attention given to the animal’s expression and the texture of its coat.

Jay lived in Peterborough and Liverpool and exhibited five works at the Royal Academy between 1905 and 1908. She also exhibited at the Liverpool Autumn Exhibitions held at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool in 1915 and 1920. Today, her charming and sensitive depictions of dogs remain especially admired by collectors of canine art.
