Alexandre Clarys
Alexandre Clarys, who was born in Brussels and was well known for his paintings of dogs and racehorses. He studied at the Brussels Academy with Ernest Blanc-Garin. He specialized in scenes with animals in a realistic style. His works were used for posters for horse shows and races, and as illustrations in sports magazines. Among his patrons was King Albert I, who commissioned the artist to paint his horse Montjoie.
Clarys exhibited regularly in the Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent Salons between 1888 and 1914. His work is represented in the collections of museums in Antwerp, Brussels, Ixelles, Liege, Ostend and Tirlemont.
