Robert Cleminson was a distinguished sporting painter known for his depictions of Highland landscapes and sporting scenes, particularly featuring sporting dog breeds – mainly setters, as well as horses. His expertise in capturing the essence of sporting dogs, games, and deer made his work highly sought after.
He exhibited 10 paintings at the British Institution, an establishment created as a rival to the Royal Academy, located at Boydell’s Shakespeare Gallery in Pall Mall, London. Additionally, he showcased his work at the Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street between 1865 and 1868. Cleminson often employed a soft, diffuse style in his paintings, a technique that adds to their desirability among collectors today.
