Joseph Sulkowski is a renowned American artist celebrated for his paintings of dogs, horses, and sporting scenes. From an early age, he knew he was destined to be an artist. After graduating from Canon-McMillan High School, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later trained under his greatest mentor, Frank Mason, at the Art Students League of New York, mastering the techniques of the Old Masters.

Sulkowski describes his style as “poetic realism,” an interpretive approach inspired by the natural world, expressed through rich impastos and luminous shadows, and a sense of timeless intimacy. His deep affection for sporting dogs, terriers, and foxhounds informs much of his work, while his commissioned pet portraits capture the intimate bond between humans and their companions.

Frequent travels from the quail plantations of South Georgia to the grouse moors of the Scottish Highlands continue to inspire his sporting scenes, while horses remain a recurring subject, celebrated for their grace and beauty.

Sulkowski work is represented in public and private collections worldwide. His two monumental murals depicting Saudi Arabian history are housed in the King Abdul Aziz Museum, and his collectors include Rolex, the Duke of Bedford, Marshall Field IV, George Michael, and the Tennessee State Museum.
