WELCOME TO THE DOG IN ART

For centuries, artists have been inspired by the loyalty, intelligence, and companionship of dogs. The Dog in Art is an online gallery dedicated to preserving that legacy through a carefully curated collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century paintings, drawings, bronzes, and sculpture by many of the world’s finest animal artists.

Whether you are an established collector, a dog enthusiast, or searching for a portrait of your favorite breed, we invite you to explore works by some of the finest British, European, and American animal artists.

Browse our Inventory by artist, breed, or medium, where you will discover original oil paintings, works on paper, sculpture, antique dog collars, and a special collection of commissioned pet portraits. Each work is accompanied by detailed research, historical background, and professional commentary to help collectors appreciate both the artist and the subject.

We are also proud to represent Pamela Dennis Hall, one of today’s leading contemporary canine artists, whose commissioned portraits are treasured for their exceptional realism and ability to capture the unique spirit and personality of each dog.

With over 35 years of experience in the art world and more than 25 years in the dog world, Galina Zhitomirsky specializes exclusively in nineteenth- and twentieth-century canine and animal art. A graduate of Sotheby’s Institute of Art and former Director of the William Secord Gallery in New York, she has helped collectors throughout the world acquire exceptional works celebrating man’s best friend.

“My passion for canine art began more than twenty-five years ago. Over the years, I discovered that every great dog portrait tells two stories: the story of the artist and the story of the remarkable dog who inspired it. My goal has always been to preserve those stories while helping collectors discover works of art they will treasure for generations.”

More than an online gallery, The Dog in Art is a resource for collectors, offering carefully researched artist biographies, historical insights, and exceptional works that celebrate the rich tradition of canine art.

We invite you to discover the stories behind the paintings and perhaps find the next treasured addition to your collection!
